BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Hollywood Casino announced Tuesday it will host the inaugural Maine Science Awards this fall.
Kate Dickerson from the Maine Discovery Museum joined casino officials at the announcement. The museum will produce the award ceremony.
For the last 11 years, the Maine Discovery Museum has put on the Maine Science Festival. Dickerson said establishing the awards furthers the museum’s commitment to science in the state.
“I know there are so many different people we could highlight. We will not be short of organizations or people that are doing remarkable work,” said Dickerson, executive director of MDM.
Marc Guastella, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino Bangor, said the awards will raise awareness about science resources in Maine.
“Team members see this, it gets them interested in science and really gets more awareness to what resources there are in the state of Maine for not only our customers, but our team members to also explore and enrich themselves,” Guastella said.
Dickerson revealed one upcoming award category: lifetime achievement. Organizers will reveal the full list, along with a call for entries, on June 1. The awards will take place on Oct. 15.
