Fans waited in line for hours Friday to watch the unveiling of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame honoring pop star and actor Miley Cyrus.
Fashion designer Donatella Versace and actress Anya Taylor-Joy joined the ninth best-selling female artist of all time, 10-time Grammy nominee and three-time winner for the ceremony at 7011 Hollywood Blvd., across from The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel. Cyrus wore a custom Versace dress for the ceremony.
Cyrus called LA her home, referencing the city of angels in her speech.
“So many (Angels) surround us right now with their names laid in concrete, where their legacy will live on long past their lifetime,” Cyrus said. “And it’s an honor to join that community and celebrate with all of you here today. Thank you for being here.”
The star is the 2,845th since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961 with the initial 1,558 stars.
Miley Cyrus’ career timeline
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus on Nov. 23, 1992, her parents, country singing star Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus, who would become her manager, nicknamed her “Smiley,” which they later shortened to “Miley,” because she often smiled as an infant.
She legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus in 2008. Her middle name honors her grandfather, Ronald Ray Cyrus, a Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1976-96.
Cyrus first became known to the public as the star of the 2006-11 Disney Channel comedy “Hannah Montana.”
She made her recording debut in 2006 on the series’ first soundtrack, “Hannah Montana.” A year later, the series’ second soundtrack and Cyrus’ debut studio album were jointly released by Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records as the double album “Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus,” which reached top of the Billboard charts and was certified as four-times platinum by the recording industry trade group, the Recording Industry Association of America.
Her next album, “Breakout,” released in 2008, also reached the top of the charts and was certified as two-times platinum.
Cyrus received her first Grammy nomination in 2013 for best pop vocal album for “Bangerz,” her fourth studio album, which also topped the charts. Sam Smith won for “In The Lonely Hour.”
Her next nomination came in 2021 for her guest appearance on the debut studio album by rapper Lil Nas X, “Montero,” which was nominated for album of the year, losing to “We Are” by Jon Batiste.
Cyrus received six nominations in 2023, which would lead to her first two victories — best pop solo performance for “Flowers,” which also won for record of the year, which goes to a single or one track from an album. “Flowers” was also nominated for song of the year, which goes to the songwriter who wrote the lyrics and/or melodies. Cyrus was also nominated for album of the year and best pop vocal album for “Endless Summer Vacation,” and best pop duo/group performance for her collaboration with Brandi Carlile, “Thousand Miles.”
Cyrus received another Grammy at the next ceremony, for best country duo/group performance as a guest vocalist on Beyoncé’s’ “II Most Wanted.”
Cyrus was also nominated for February’s ceremony for best pop vocal album for “Something Beautiful,” losing to Lady Gaga’s “Mayhem.”
