I never thought in a million years I would ever see horror movies dominate the box office in 2026.

There are two horror movies right now that are the top dogs in theaters right now. And what’s even crazier is the budget for both films, and how much they had made back from the box office.

Obsession Budget: $750,000

Box Office: $148 million (Apparently, it’s already hit $162 million)!

The Backrooms Budget: $10 million

Box Office: $118 million (Apparently, it’s already hit $144 million)!

I can’t believe I would ever see two horror movies get such a massive fanbase, and witness tickets getting sold left and right.

And what’s more impressive is that both of these films were created by YouTubers. The Backrooms already had a huge fanbase on YouTube, because the same dude who made the YouTube series online also made the film, so I did expect the film to do great in theaters.

With Obsession however, this was a huge surprise. This film was considered to be one of the smallest budgets for a horror film, and it’s so awesome how fast the hype for this movie continued to grow. The marketing team did a damn fine job, and now Obsession has become one of the biggest horror films of the year.

I always felt that theaters were dying, but after the huge success we got with both of these films, it made me truly realize that I was right about Hollywood.

Hollywood is dying, and they are the reason behind why no one wants to go back to the theater anymore.

It took two YouTubers to bring audiences back to theaters, and it makes me so happy to see tickets sold out for a genre that is considered highly underrated in the Hollywood industry.

Plus, two horror movies took out a STAR WARS film in theaters right now, and I feel that the hype for that movie hasn’t been exactly the best.

Hollywood needs to give up on the same old stuff, such as superheroes and overrated franchises. The problem with these types of films is that Hollywood expects audiences to keep up with all of the television shows or other films to understand what is going on in the upcoming films that will be going straight to theaters.

A good example would be the Star Wars film in theaters right now, that requires fans to watch a television show to understand the story of the two main characters. It’s just gotten way too repetitive at this point.

All the audiences want is something original and fresh. And yes, I’m sure that it’s not easy to come up with scripts, but come on, these two horror films were able to pull off their concepts!

Obsession used a simple concept for a horror movie, and it worked tremendously well.

The Backrooms pulled off a terrifying concept that turned it into a fan favorite among horror fans.

I hope that Hollywood opens their eyes during this year, to realize that we don’t need over the top films that have gotten so old to bring people to theaters. If two YouTubers were able to give audiences great horror films to fill up the theaters, then Hollywood might have a chance if they consider changing up the movie formula.

Hell, the other horror films that came out in theaters this year have been the only films I have gone to the theater for…so yeah, I think Hollywood needs to realize they now have a lot of competition.

It’s a good year to be a horror fan.

And it feels good to know that we are winning in theaters right now!
