Latasha M. Ford with Awards Buzz goes behind the curtain with Common! We took a deep dive into how Common maintained unwavering faith amidst career setbacks and life’s challenges. During the exclusive interview, the award-winning star discussed practical ways in which he continues to strengthen his belief and find peace and purpose beyond professional success or financial gains.

The lively conversation included highlights on “The Power of Vision” and learning how to manifest your dreams through prayer, affirmations, and the crucial element of seeing yourself succeed. Both Common and Latasha are Chicago natives, so, of course, Chicago roots were talked about—hailing from the same city, the two celebrated the unbreakable bond of being a Chicagoan, from Chi-Town to LA.

As the interview came to a close, Common delved into the power of presence and how maturity fosters greater presence and paves the way for future achievements. He spoke on trusting the plan, embracing your calling with humility, and trusting the Creator’s plan through every disappointment. And most importantly, they discussed cultural legacy and the groundbreaking impact of Stuart Scott and the documentary Booyah!, honoring how he forever changed sports journalism.

Full Interview Below:

“I used to watch Stuart Scott and marvel at how he brought culture—Black culture, hip-hop references, and much more—to ESPN when sports journalism lacked such elements. He was one of a kind! He changed the way people broadcast sports. I always thought about having a film about him – a scripted story about him, because, wow, he’s powerful.”

About 30 for 30 “Vision: A Portrait of Stuart Scott”

The track “Vision” serves as a powerful tribute to Scott’s life and enduring impact, reflecting the core themes of his legacy: truth-telling, perseverance, and a hip-hop influence that continues to inspire millions. Common wrote and performed this soulful anthem alongside the incredible 9th Wonder, PJ, and Bilal, with James Poyser also contributing as a writer.

Common continues to cement his status as a creative powerhouse, standing just one Tony Award away from EGOT status. His decorated career includes: An Emmy Award (2017): For the song “13th” from Ava DuVernay’s documentary. Three Grammy Awards: Celebrating hits like “Love of My Life,” “Southside,” and “Glory”. An Academy Award (2015): For “Glory” with John Legend, plus a second Oscar nomination in 2018 for “Stand Up for Something”.
