From Weezer’s Green Album, featuring “Island in the Sun“, to Lorde’s Solar Power, this list combines classics and fresh beats to help you curate your perfect Summer playlist!

1Weezer, The Green Album

A classic Weezer album, The Green Album is an easy Summer listen. The songs flow smoothly from start to finish, remaining in a light and fizzy space, making it perfect for a road trip or beach day vibe. An under-30-minute power-pop album with fuzzy production and slightly grungy guitars gives it this breeziness and radio notoriety that carries from one hit to another. Why overthink when you can enjoy a lazy Summer afternoon to “Photograph”, an effervescent upbeat song with a singable chorus, or “Don’t Let Go”, the punchy album opener that really kicks off the sweet Summer sounds? Most notably, this album contains an iconic summer anthem, “Island in the Sun”, which literally describes escaping to a place where you “never feel bad anymore” through mid-tempo, catchy lyrics and acoustics.

2SZA, Ctrl

SZA’s iconic R&B Summer album blends deeply relatable, coming-of-age lyricism and warm and hazy production to tell quintessentially Summer stories of late nights, messy crushes, and feelings spilling out in hot weather. SZA combines the in-between spaces of your 20s and the Summer season, allowing its atmosphere to be shaped by the spacious sounds of floating synths and sparse guitars to bring a humid, stripped-down feeling that really lets her lyricism and intonation shine. “Love Galore”, featuring Travis Scott, is one of the most iconic songs of this album, which is filled with instant classics, joining sensuality with vulnerability for hot summer nights. In addition, “The Weekend” is an anthem to all situationships with a soft rolling bass, and “Go Gina” adds a nostalgic ’90s-like vibe for car drives with the windows down. The entire album will carry you through soft Summer melancholy without a single skip.

3Outkast, Speakerboxx/The Love Below

André 3000 and Big Boi, the hip-hop duo behind Outkast, know a thing or two about making hits, and this album is no exception. They combine two Summer energies, day and night: Big Boi’s bass-centric, club-ready Southern hip-hop in Speakerboxx, and the genre-bending, lush, and romantic songs of André 3000’s The Love Below. Bright and experimental production, combined with the overarching celebratory feel, makes this Summer feel like the early-2000s again and bring back some of these diamond hits like “The Way You Move”, a horn-driven jam with a killer hook that will bring the vibe to any outdoor Summer events, and, obviously, “Hey Ya!”, the very definition of Summer pop with bright guitars and handclaps, truly a dance-floor favorite.
