The NTT IndyCar Series race weekend at Nashville Superspeedway will feature some significant star power. The Music City Grand Prix festivities will have a Hollywood star and a prominent DJ putting on a show.
According to an announcement, DJ Deadmau5 (Joel Zimmerman) will perform during the Music City Grand Prix weekend. The multi-platinum electronic music producer will serve as the headliner on Sunday, July 19.
Additionally, actor Billy Bob Thornton will make an appearance. He and Mark Collie — who form the Backseat Troubadours — will also perform during the festive NTT IndyCar Series weekend.
The addition of the Backseat Troubadours is fitting considering the ties to the open wheel racing series. The duo recently released True American Racer (500 Miles), which they co-wrote with Big Machine Records founder Scott Borchetta. This song became part of a documentary about IndyCar icon Bobby Rahal.
“This lineup has the kind of range we love to see on a Nashville stage,” Borchetta, a prominent figure in Nashville, said in a statement.
“With Deadmau5 and Backbeat Troubadours, we’re adding a major live music moment to a weekend that already brings together the world’s game and the fastest racing on Earth in a uniquely Nashville way.”
The Music City Grand Prix has become a prominent part of the IndyCar Series schedule, albeit while changing locations. This event previously took place on the streets of Nashville while incorporating such landmarks as Nissan Stadium.
However, the event moved to Nashville Superspeedway for 2025. The IndyCar Series teams raced on the oval track instead of on the streets.
Colton Herta won the final 2024 Music City Grand Prix on the streets of Nashville, which closed out the season. Last season, Tennessee native Josef Newgarden won the race. He held off Alex Palou, who had already clinched the championship at that point of the season.
