A concert film commemorating Sia’s iconic main stage performance at Coachella in 2016 is heading to cinemas next month, but it’s not any ordinary concert film.

Described as a “truly mesmerising cinematic experience,” the film is directed by the Aussie singer and Daniel Askill, with choreography by Ryan Heffington. It stars Sia’s frequent collaborator, Maddie Ziegler, as well as Hollywood stars Kristen Wiig, Paul Dano, Ben Mendelsohn, Gaby Hoffmann, and Tig Notaro.

The film, Sia: Nostalgic for the Present, lands in select cinemas worldwide – including Australia – from Thursday, 23 July. Presented by Trafalgar Releasing, the limited theatrical event coincides with the tenth anniversary of Sia’s unforgettable performance on the Coachella stage.

While footage that features in the film has circulated online for years, it’s never had an official release. Now, it’s been remastered for its tenth anniversary, highlighting Sia’s huge vocal and artistry, and Ryan Heffington’s choreography,

You can find film screenings in your city and tickets on the Nostalgic for the Present website, and check out the trailer below.

“Working with Sia on Nostalgic for the Present has been a dream,” Askill said. “Her music and her emotional instincts opened space for something that doesn’t exist anywhere else at the intersection of performance, music, and film – and we were blessed to bring it to life with extraordinary collaborators on both sides of the camera.”

Sia added, “Working with some of the greatest artists of our time was a thrilling, tremendous journey that I would take over and over again, if given the opportunity. I am humbled by the talent of everyone involved and so grateful for the experience. I am nostalgic for the present.”

Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, concluded, “Sia’s Coachella performance is exactly the kind of cultural moment that belongs on the big screen. From the powerful vocals to the mesmerising visuals, we are proud to celebrate its tenth anniversary by presenting the unmatched spectacle of the film as a collective experience for her fans.”

Sia’s most recent album, Reasonable Woman, was released in May 2024. It marked her first album in eight years – following 2016’s hit-making This Is Acting – and included collaborations with Kylie Minogue, Chaka Khan, Labrinth, Paris Hilton, and others.
