Ann Blyth, who has been described as one of the last surviving stars from Hollywood’s Golden Age, passed away on Wednesday, June 24.

The news was confirmed by KABC broadcaster, George Pennacchio, after he posted a tribute to the actress on Facebook.

Ann started her career in the entertainment industry as a child in the 1930s and went on to star in many films and TV shows up to the 1980s.

What movies did Ann Blyth star in?

Ann starred in a huge range of films with her first appearance being in Chip Off the Old Block at the age of 16.

She then went on to land roles in many Hollywood movies such as Kismet, Our Very Own, and A Woman’s Vengeance.

She is best known for starring alongside Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce playing Veda Pierce.

The role earnt her a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

In the late 1950s, Ann worked in musical theatre and starred in a range of shows such as The Sound of Music and The King and I.

In his tribute, George Pennacchio said: “She was only 16 when she was nominated for an Oscar!

“Actress Ann Blyth died peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday at the age of 98, less than two months before her 99th birthday. 

“Ann began performing on the radio when she was only six.  She was Broadway at the age of 12 and she made her first film at 14.

“Ann was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as “Veda” opposite Joan Crawford in the 1945 film, “Mildred Pierce.”

“Her career spanned more than 70 years in musical theatre, on television and in 35 movies. She also toured for years, singing songs from the Great American Songbook with Bill Hayes and Donald O’Connor.”

He also mentioned how Ann spent her free time volunteering for “many causes” and enjoyed gardening, knitting, and oil painting.

The Hollywood movie actress also has her own star on the Walk of Fame.
