Intocable Receives Hollywood Walk of Fame Star, Honored for Legendary Music Career – Tejano Nation

For more than 30 years, Intocable has proudly represented South Texas and reshaped the sound of Regional Mexican music. On Thursday, July 16, the legendary band reached another career-defining milestone, receiving the 2,852nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Recording category during a public ceremony at 7083 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The honor recognizes Intocable’s groundbreaking influence on Latin music, blending Tejano, Norteño, pop, rock, and cumbia into a signature style that has inspired generations of musicians while selling more than 55 million albums worldwide.

Daytime Emmy Award-winning journalist Jessica Maldonado emceed the ceremony, joined by music executive Nir Seroussi and Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Edgar Barrera, who both praised the band’s lasting impact on the evolution of Música Mexicana.

A star decades in the making

Opening the ceremony, Maldonado celebrated the significance of the moment not only for the band, but for Latinos everywhere.

“It is an honor to celebrate these musical icons who revolutionized the music industry with their unmistakable Tejano sound,” she said. “Every time a Hispanic artist joins the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it represents the dreams of every immigrant who came here seeking success. Your success represents the success of all Latinos.”

She highlighted Intocable’s remarkable achievements, including more than 55 million records sold, over 50 chart entries, multiple GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY Awards, and the band’s continued success on its Cultura Tour 2026, which is taking their music across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Maldonado also reflected on meeting Intocable more than three decades ago while covering Texas artists for national television.

“I asked Ricky what he wanted to achieve,” she recalled. “He said, ‘The stars… whatever comes.’ Today, seeing this come full circle is incredibly emotional.”

Nir Seroussi: ‘They refused to fit inside the rules’

In one of the ceremony’s most memorable speeches, Interscope Capital Miami President Nir Seroussi praised Intocable for changing the direction of Regional Mexican music by refusing to conform.

“Thirty years ago, a band like Intocable wasn’t supposed to exist,” Seroussi said. “Back then, Música Mexicana had rules. Stay in your lane. Play the instruments the way you’re supposed to. Intocable looked at all of that and said, ‘No thanks.’”

He credited Ricky Muñoz and René Martínez with opening doors for future generations.

“Today, Música Mexicana is one of the most streamed genres in the world,” Seroussi said. “The number that matters most isn’t on any chart. It’s the number of artists who get to be exactly who they are because Intocable refused to be anyone but themselves.”

Edgar Barrera: ‘You opened doors that were once closed’

Twenty-nine-time Latin GRAMMY winner Edgar Barrera delivered an emotional tribute, sharing how Intocable helped shape his own musical journey growing up near the Texas-Mexico border.

“I grew up listening to Intocable because of my father,” Barrera said. “When I was 15, their album X came out, and suddenly I heard rock bands covering their songs. That’s when I realized something that changed the way I viewed music forever: a great song belongs in any genre.”

Barrera explained that Intocable proved Regional Mexican music deserved a place on the world’s biggest stages.

“They dared to take Norteño music beyond local radio and onto international stages,” he said. “That courage inspired me to create BorderKid Records because those of us who grew up on the border understand that’s where everything comes together—the Norteño, the pop, English and Spanish. That fearless spirit started with Intocable.”

He also shared a personal memory from his teenage years, when his father took him to meet Ricky Muñoz to play him original songs.

“I arrived with my little CD in my sweaty hands,” Barrera recalled. “Ricky greeted me and took time to listen. I never imagined that nervous teenager would one day be standing in Hollywood speaking about his heroes. Today those same idols have become my friends.”

Ricky Muñoz: ‘I wanted to live the moment’

Accepting the honor, Intocable frontman Ricardo “Ricky” Muñoz admitted he intentionally avoided preparing a formal speech.

“I promised myself I wanted to live the moment,” Muñoz said. “People kept asking if I had my speech ready, and my answer was no.”

Instead, he spoke from the heart.

“First of all, thank you, God, for so many blessings and for allowing us to make music through You.”

Muñoz thanked his family for supporting him throughout the band’s journey and expressed appreciation to his bandmates for standing beside him through decades of success.

He also recognized everyone who has contributed to Intocable throughout the years.

“To everyone who has been part of Intocable—whether behind the scenes, on stage, or those who have come and gone—thank you for leaving your mark on this journey.”

The singer reserved special gratitude for the fans whose loyalty has sustained the group for more than three decades.

“Without you, there would be no Intocable.”

A heartfelt tribute to songwriters

Before concluding, Muñoz made sure to recognize another group he believes deserves equal appreciation.

“We can have Intocable,” he said, “but without the songwriters who trust us with their songs, none of this would exist. Everything begins with a song.”

He added, “From the bottom of my heart, I will always be grateful to the composers for placing their work in our hands.”

Intocable Day in Hollywood

Following the presentation of a City of Los Angeles resolution, Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Ron Frierson officially proclaimed July 16 as “Intocable Day” in Hollywood, adding another historic distinction to the celebration before inviting the band to unveil its star.

The ceremony capped another milestone in a legendary career that continues to break barriers for Tejano and Regional Mexican music while inspiring new generations of artists on both sides of the border.

More than three decades after forming in Zapata, Texas, Intocable’s name is now permanently etched into Hollywood history—an honor that reflects not only the band’s extraordinary achievements, but also its enduring impact on Latino culture, music, and identity.
