Based on the ancient Greek epic attributed to Homer, the film brings the legendary tale of Odysseus’ long and perilous journey home after the Trojan War to the big screen. Featuring an ensemble cast led by Matt Damon, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, the epic has generated widespread buzz for its ambitious scale, IMAX filmmaking and Nolan’s signature storytelling. One fan commented, “When a movie makes someone want to walk right back into the theatre immediately after leaving, that’s the only review that actually matters.” Another fan wrote, “When the man who literally jumps off cliffs for real entertainment tells you to watch a movie, you just book the tickets!” A third fan wrote, “i mean wow a review from you is an actual recommendation.”
The Odyssey has been filmed across a range of picturesque locations, including Greece, Morocco, Italy, Iceland and Scotland, giving the epic a visually authentic backdrop. Nolan and his team pushed the boundaries of IMAX filmmaking by using newly developed lightweight cameras, making it easier to shoot large-scale sequences that were previously challenging because of the format’s bulk and technical limitations.
The Odyssey has been released in theatres today, July 17.
