Meghan Markle received her first-ever Emmy nomination but a new report says that the rest of Hollywood isn’t taking it seriously.
The Duchess of Sussex’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, was nominated for Outstanding Lifestyle Program, but according to a Friday, July 17, report from Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack, some industry insiders believe the recognition has more to do with Meghan’s star power as opposed to her show’s success.
“If this was truly Emmy-caliber television, why wasn’t Netflix doing everything possible to keep it alive?” one source told the gossip blog, referencing how Netflix canceled Meghan’s show after two seasons. “That’s the question everyone in town is asking.”
Another source thinks it’s Meghan’s global recognition that the awards show is really after.
“Award shows are fighting for attention,” the source explained. “Putting Meghan Markle on the red carpet guarantees global coverage. That’s a bigger win for the Emmys than recognizing a series that never became a cultural phenomenon.”

With Meghan’s nomination, a third source told Naughty But Nice that people in Hollywood are “debating the credibility of the Emmys.”
“Every awards season there’s one nomination that leaves Hollywood scratching its head,” the source continued. “This year’s conversation is Meghan.”
Earlier this week, Meghan, 44, shared her excitement about the Emmy nomination on social media.
“A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on With Love, Meghan on @netflix,” she captioned a poster of the series on Instagram on Wednesday, July 15. “We are nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!”
