Heated Rivalry producer Brendan Brady has jumped on board From Me to You, writer-director Daniel Little’s romantic comedy set and shot in Canada’s Yukon.
Brady executive produces the Canadian indie alongside David Brady and Sonny Goldstein, with Marty O’Brien producing. Yukon-based Little co-wrote the script for From Me to You with playwright and author Peter Jickling as it centers on two damaged people confronting their inner demons to find love in Whitehorse.
Allan Dobrescu, plays Paul, an aspiring writer with cerebral palsy who fancies his mail carrier, Nora, played by Genevieve Doyon. To see her, Paul writes and sends letters to himself. When Nora secretly reads the letters, she becomes intrigued by their anonymous writer and as their lives increasingly intertwine, Paul and Nora confront fears and insecurities before their chance at love slips away.
Dobrescu and Jickling in real life have lived with cerebral palsy since birth. Director Little in a statement said From Me to You aims at having authenticity and heart at its core.
“I’m incredibly grateful to Allan for bringing such emotional depth, honesty, and insight to the role. We’re also deeply proud to be making this film in the Yukon. The warmth, humor and genuine sense of connection that exists here is an integral part of the story we’re telling. It’s the perfect setting for a film about human connection, vulnerability and finding our place in the world,” he said.
Battlestar Galactica actor Tahmoh Penikett also stars in the film.
From Me to You, financed in part by Telefilm Canada and its Talent to Watch program, also has production coin from Yukon Media Development, the Canada Media Fund, Northwestel Community TV, the Disability Screen Office and the Yukon Film Society.
