SA actress Thuso Mbedu continues to fly the country’s flag on the global stage as she stars in the highly anticipated Hollywood film ‘Children of Blood and Bone’.
South African star Thuso Mbedu is once again making waves in Hollywood after featuring in the upcoming film ‘ Children of Blood and Bone’, which is set to hit cinemas on 15 January 2027. The official trailer is expected to drop on Tuesday, 28 July.
Ahead of the trailer’s release, Paramount Pictures shared a behind-the-scenes feature on YouTube. The video was released on Monday, and has already gained over 4-million views, highlighting the excitement surrounding one of 2027’s most anticipated releases.
Speaking in the YouTube video, Mbedu expressed her excitement about being part of the production.
“I’m super excited being a part of something as big as this.”
The film, directed and co-written by Gina Prince-Bythewood, is based on Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling fantasy novel.
“In the epic fantasy world of Orïsha, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule,” reads the YouTube film description.
Shot in South Africa, the film features stars such as Damson Idris, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Idris Elba and Viola Davis, amongst many.
This marks another major Hollywood milestone for Mbedu. She earned international acclaim for her lead role as Cora in ‘The Underground Railroad’, a performance that won her the Hollywood Critics Association TV Award and an Emmy nomination. She also starred alongside Viola Davis in ‘The Woman King’, further cementing her place as one of South Africa’s biggest stars.
