Michelle Pfeiffer’s 45-year movie career might have come to an end, with the Hollywood star declaring: “I never want to star in another movie.”
The Batman Returns actor has been a fixture on the film since her breakout roles in Grease 2 and Scarface in the early 1980s, but the star’s heart now lies in TV, following appearances in Margo’s Got Money Troubles and The Madison.
Pfeiffer, who has two Oscar nominations to her name, attended a Women of Apple TV event ahead of the forthcoming Emmys, and told her fellow nominees, as per The Hollywood Reporter: “I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God. I only want to do ensemble pieces. It’s so much more fun, I love it so much.”
Pfeiffer, 68, was one of the world’s highest-paid stars of the Nineties, helped by two consecutive Oscar nominations for Dangerous Liaisons and The Fabulous Baker Boys at the tail-end of the 1980s. Following this, she was cast as Catwoman in Tim Burton’s sequel Batman Returns (1992)
Her other key credits include 1980s comedies The Witches of Eastwick (1987) and Married to the Mob (1988), Martin Scorsese’s Edith Wharton adaptation The Age of Innocence (1993), and psychological thriller What Lies Beneath (2000), also starring Harrison Ford.
In 2007, she appeared in Hairspray and Stardust, following which a 10-year acting hiatus followed before her return in Kenneth Branagh’s The Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018).
In Margo’s Got Money Troubles, created by Pfeiffer’s real-life husband, David E Kelley, she plays the mother of Elle Fanning’s college dropout, who signs up to OnlyFans to support herself and her new baby financially. Nicole Kidman also appears in the comedy show.
Meanwhile, in The Madison – from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan – she plays the matriarch of a family who relocate from New York City to a valley in southwest Montana after a tragedy.

At the Emmys, which is due to take place on 15 September, Pfeiffer is Emmy-nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Margo’s Got Money Troubles alongside Widow’s Bay stars Kate O’Flynn and Dale Dickey, Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter (both for Hacks), Janelle James (Abbott Elementary) and Shrinking actor Jessica Williams.
Medical drama The Pitt received the most Emmy nominations with a whopping 25, closely followed by Widow’s Bay. The ceremony will be hosted by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay.
