[Sportschosun Ahn So-yoon] Director Kim Do-young opened up about the pressure he felt while remaking the Hollywood film “The Intern.”

At a production briefing for “The Intern” held on the 24th at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Ichon-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, Kim said, “Since the original was so beloved, making a remake was not easy,” adding, “I tried to highlight the actors’ charm as much as possible.”

“The Intern” tells the story of an office life that crosses generations and ranks, beginning when Ki-ho, a 37-year veteran silver intern, joins Sunoo’s company, which has rapidly emerged as a dark horse in the fashion industry three years after its launch. The film is directed by Kim Do-young, known for “Kim Ji-young, Born 1982” and “Once We Were Us.”

“The Intern” is a remake of the 2015 Hollywood film of the same name, which drew strong audience support around the world and earned more than five times its production budget at the box office. Director Kim said, “Because the original was so well received, the remake was not easy. I focused on bringing out the actors’ appeal as much as possible.” He added, “Since the film was made 10 years ago, some parts are different from back then. I portrayed the process of a silver intern overcoming conflict with younger employees in a Korean way. In Korea, people use a lot of fun abbreviations, and we reflected that as well.”

He also highlighted the film’s key appeal, saying, “It is an office-life story that can resonate with all generations, from people just starting their careers to those who have been working for years and middle-aged viewers approaching retirement.”
