The Sheep Detectives Review: Hugh Jackman’s film is emotional.

The Sheep Detectives Review: The Sheep Detectives is based on the quirky mystery novel, Three Bags Full, by Leonie Swann. Blending comedy with a cosy whodunit, the story follows a flock of sheep who set out to solve the murder of their shepherd. While the film will be out in theatres on May 8, those who have watched it at an early screening have taken to X to share their views.

One person wrote, “THE SHEEP DETECTIVES is remarkably charming fun for the whole family (ages 8+). It contains elements of both PADDINGTON and KNIVES OUT, while being full of laughs, mystery and misdirection. A stellar voice cast truly endears you to these characters as the whodunnit unfolds.”

Another person wrote, “The Sheep Detectives was simply delightful. A wonderfully engaging and charming little film that brought me back to the great talking-animal family movies of the 80s and 90s. It is the kind of crowd-pleasing adventure that fills you with genuine joy from beginning to end. In an era where audiences keep asking for fun, heartfelt original entertainment, this is exactly the sort of movie that deserves to become a major box office hit.”

Another post read, “#TheSheepDetectives truly is a remarkably beautiful film. I wasn’t sure what to expect coming in, and I left overwhelmed with happiness over this gem. Led by a superb flock of a cast, this wonderful murder mystery will leave you with tears of joy. A perfect family film.”

Someone else wrote, “#TheSheepDetectives made me realise that a movie about sheep could make me very emotional. An adorable, sweet, zany whodunit that’s perfect for the entire family! It’s everything you love about ‘Knives Out’ mixed with ‘Chicken Run’. The acting across the board is delightful.”

“The Sheep Detectives is The Lion King of sheep movies! It’s got heart, a great message, comedy and tons of fun! Standouts are Dreyfus, Cranston, Braun, and Goldstein but whole cast is excellent! Blown away by the story and music. Great time for the family! Go see it! 9/10,” another X post read.

The film is directed by Kyle Balda, best known for his work on animated hits like Despicable Me 3. The cast features a strong ensemble, including Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun, and Hong Chau, bringing personality and charm to the unusual detective team.
