Glen Basner, founder and CEO of FilmNation Entertainment, will receive the Game Changer Award at this year’s Zurich Summit, the film industry conference held alongside the Zurich Film Festival.

Basner is being honored for what the festival described as his “outstanding achievements, excellent cinematic taste, and significant contributions within the film industry.”

Under Basner’s leadership, FilmNation has become one of the dominant players in the independent film business, backing awards-season and commercial hits including Anora, Conclave, Promising Young Woman, Arrival and The Big Sick.

The company has also expanded aggressively into television, podcasts and theater. Its recent TV projects include The House of the Spirits for Prime Video, and the Emmy-winning I Know This Much is True for HBO. Its podcast arm scored a hit with SNAFU with Ed Helms. FilmNation’s theater credits include Tony-winning productions Stereophonic, Prima Facie, The Band’s Visit and The Sound Inside.

“Since its founding in 2008, FilmNation Entertainment, under the steady leadership of Glen Basner, has grown into a major and dominant independent force with global ambitions,” Zurich Film Festival director Christian Jungen said in a statement. “Basner has consistently championed bold and distinctive cinematic voices, supporting acclaimed auteurs such as Denis Villeneuve, Edward Berger, and Sean Baker.”

Jungen added that Basner “stands out for his rare ability to combine creative instincts with market insights, sales expertise, and strong business acumen.”

Calling the recognition “a tremendous honor for both me and the team at FilmNation,” Basner commented on the award, noting “we all need to be game changing in today’s independent entertainment business and I’m excited to talk about why I remain entirely optimistic about our future.”

Previous recipients of the Zurich Summit’s Game Changer Award include Tom Quinn, CEO of NEON; Roeg Sutherland, head of CAA Media Finance & International Film Group; Patrick Wachsberger, the former Legendary Entertainment chief and Oscar-winning producer of CODA; Pam Abdy, co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group; and Michael Barker and Tom Bernard, co-presidents of Sony Pictures Classics.

Held between the Toronto, Venice and London film festivals, Zurich has increasingly established itself as a key fall launchpad for awards contenders and prestige titles targeting the German-speaking market. The Zurich Summit prides itself as the “Davos of the film industry,” a high-level gathering bringing together executives, financiers, producers and creatives from the film, television and tech sectors.

The Zurich Summit will run Sept. 25-27 at Zurich’s Dolder Grand hotel, while the 2026 Zurich Film Festival is set for Sept. 24-Oct. 4.
