NBC News is significantly expanding its streaming video service NBC News Now, giving Christine Romans her own program as it grows daily live coverage to 14 hours per day.

NBC News president of editorial Rebecca Blumenstein and executive VP Janelle Rodriguez announced the changes in a note to staff Wednesday.

Romans, currently senior business correspondent for NBC News, will become chief business correspondent for the network and anchor a new two-hour program for NBC News Now from 10 a.m. to noon beginning this summer.

The network expects her business reporting background to be put to good use during the show, which will take place shortly after trading opens.

“Christine brings deep expertise and clarity to complex, fast-moving stories, from inflation and government shutdowns to the global impact of war and the forces shaping the modern economy,” the NBC executives write. “She has a track record of landing interviews with leading CEOs and influential voices across a range of industries.”

Romans joined NBC from CNN in 2023, where she had been co-anchor of the morning show Early Start.

Her new show will serve as an expansion point for News Now, which has been one of Cesar Conde’s top priorities since taking over the NBC News Group.

That will include the streaming service moving to a new dedicated studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Studio 3A, which was previously used by MSNBC. MSNBC, of course, since rebranded to MS NOW and moved its New York studios to a new building near Times Square.

With MS NOW officially split from NBC, NBC News is likely to become more of a priority for the network as it seeks to reach viewers outside of the limited broadcast windows it has on linear TV. The network also launched a subscription offering that bundles together its free news offerings with some exclusive content.
