Jefferson County, OH — Show tunes and movie favorites filled the air in Toronto on Sunday as the Tri-State Community Band brought its spring concert to local audiences.

The band’s latest free concert, titled “That’s Entertainment,” featured recognizable music from the stage, the screen and even the circus. Organizers said the performance aimed to transport audience members back to favorite movie scenes or Broadway shows, with flute melodies drifting through the room alongside the steady rhythm of drums.

The timing also made the event an opportunity to recognize Mother’s Day.

“It was the day the opportunity existed, so we tried to incorporate some Mother’s Day things with it, so we asked people to bring your mother to the concert,” said Kirk George, band director for the Tri-State Community Concert Band.

With musicians and audience members from across the Tri-State area, band leaders said the concert was about more than the music.

“It’s a community. When you lose that community activity, you kind of filter away things. This is a community activity where everybody comes together, everybody enjoys one another,” George said.

The band’s next performance is planned for June 30, with a patriotic concert celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. More information is available at wtov9.com.
