Universal Pictures has greenlit the “definitive” biopic on Bon Jovi, the New Jersey band that has sold over 130 million albums globally. According to Deadline, multiple studios chased the project, and Universal just closed the deal.

The movie will explore the band’s formative years, and the key moments that paved the way for their rock anthems, and blockbuster albums such as “Slippery When Wet,” which sold 30 million copies worldwide, and led to superstardom.

Cody Brotter has been brought on to write the script — his Matt Drudge script was on the Black List, and he most recently rewrote Doug Liman’s upcoming crypto thriller “Killing Satoshi.” No director has yet to be attached to the Bon Jovi movie.

Hollywood’s music‑biopic obsession isn’t just alive — it’s in full‑blown overdrive. This is just one of dozens of music biopics in the works, with already greenlit projects set to tackle Blondie, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Madonna, KISS, Joni Mitchell, Lionel Richie, The Bee Gees, Carole King, Ronnie Spector, Janis Joplin, Dionne Warwick, Sinéad O’Connor, and Linda Ronstadt.
