CNN Inks Deal to Stream Video Podcasts From Lemonada

CNN will bring several podcasts from Lemonada Media to its new streaming offering.

Starting Wednesday, CNN will stream the video podcasts Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know, Don’t Listen to Us with Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody, Alive with Steve Burns, The Dan Buettner Podcast and Since You Asked with Lori Gottlieb and Gretchen Rubin. New weekly episodes of most of the shows and select library episodes of the shows will be available to streaming subscribers Wednesday.

Since You Asked with Lori Gottlieb and Gretchen Rubin will be available Jan. 20 when the next episode premieres.

The partnership comes as other big players are making major moves in the video podcasting space. Netflix made deals with Spotify, iHeartMedia and Barstool to stream podcasts on its platform starting this month. Spotify has also upped its own video podcasting efforts by broadening eligibility for its paid program for creators and allowing independent podcast hosting platforms to monetize their video podcasts on Spotify.

While Netflix has called for exclusive video distribution in some of its deals (keeping shows off competitor YouTube), the video episodes on CNN will still be available on other platforms, including YouTube.

These are some of the bigger titles at Lemonada, which is also home to Wiser Than Me With Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but which doesn’t produce video episodes.

“This partnership with CNN marks an exciting next chapter for Lemonada,” said Stephanie Wittels Wachs, Lemonada CEO. “As demand for video podcasts continues to grow, we’re thrilled to bring our standout slate of video content to new audiences and broaden access for existing fans.”

Video episodes of the podcasts will be available on demand to CNN’s streaming subscribers on its website and CNN-connected TV and mobile apps.

The streaming app already features video episodes of CNN’S All There Is with Anderson Cooper. Other CNN shows including Chasing Life with Dr. Sanjay Gupta, The Assignment with Audie Cornish and Terms of Service with Clare Duffy will be available to stream in the coming weeks.

“The rapid growth of video podcasts underscores the appetite for smart, personality-driven nonfiction content – an area where CNN has long been a leader,” said Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent, CNN Originals and creative development for CNN Worldwide. “This collaboration with Lemonada builds on that strength, enabling us to expand into new verticals and meet audiences where they are increasingly watching.”
