Led by Hacks and The Pitt, HBO Max led all networks and platforms in Wednesday’s Emmy Awards nominations.

HBO Max earned 122 nominations, including those for shows that originate on the HBO cable channels and stream simultaneously on HBO Max. For Emmy submission purposes, they’re all grouped under the HBO Max umbrella. The Pitt and Hacks — the reigning winners for best drama and comedy series — accounted for 51 of those. The Pitt scored 25 nominations and Hacks 24, and companion short-form programs for each series got one nomination apiece.

HBO Max’s total was down some year to year; it received 142 nominations in 2025, boosted by The Penguin, The White Lotus and The Last of Us all getting more than 15. Despite the decline, however, it stayed on top of the network/platform race.

Netflix was second with 111 nominations (also down from last year’s 120), led by 16 for the second season of anthology series Beef, nine for The Beast in Me and seven each for Black Rabbit, The Diplomat, Monster: The Ed Gein Story and Stranger Things. Apple TV hit a high in nominations for a second consecutive year, earning 87 nods for the 2026 awards (up from 81 last year). Widow’s Bay (19) and Pluribus (18) topped the list of Apple’s nominees.

ABC led the broadcast networks with 40 total nominations, followed by CBS (32), NBC (30), PBS (five) and Fox (three). Amazon platforms Prime Video and MGM+ combined for 39 nominations. FX has 23, and Hulu Originals earned 22 nods.

With HBO leading the platform pack, parent company Warner Bros. Discovery also scored the most Emmy nominations among media conglomerates with 150 — including those for studio Warner Bros. TV and cable networks Adult Swim, Discovery, Food Network and ID. Disney had 125, followed by Netflix’s 111, NBCUniversal’s 90 (vs. 72 last year), Apple TV’s 87 and Paramount’s 55. (By next year’s Emmys, WBD’s and Paramount’s totals could be combined, assuming Paramount’s takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery closes on its preferred timeline.)

Apple (and HBO Max, for that matter) seems to punch well above its weight in Emmy nominations relative to its share of the TV audience. While some of its shows break into Nielsen’s streaming top 10 charts from time to time, Apple has never accounted for even 1 percent of all TV use, based on Nielsen’s monthly Gauge measure of viewing by platform. Warner Bros. Discovery streaming — most of which comes from HBO Max — typically hovers around 1.5 percent of TV viewing per month.

The 78th Emmy Awards are scheduled for Sept. 14 on NBC, with Mariska Hargitay serving as host. The Creative Arts ceremonies are set for Sept. 5 and 6.

July 8, 1 p.m. Updated with nomination totals by media company.
