In its second weekend, The Devil Wears Prada 2 featuring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, has already surpassed the original 2006 movie. Directed by David Frankel, the first film achieved a total of $326.5 million in worldwide box office earnings. The sequel has exceeded that figure in just nine days. With Mother’s Day approaching on May 10, the Hollywood film is expected to receive a significant boost at the global box office for the second consecutive week. As reported by Deadline, the legacy sequel generated $101.8 million in its opening week in the US and $222.2 million worldwide. In its second weekend, it is competing with another sequel, Mortal Kombat II, which premiered on Friday, May 8. However, the predominantly female audience for The Devil Wears Prada 2 is returning to view the film multiple times, which could lead to earnings of approximately $40 to $50 million in its second weekend, especially with Mother’s Day. Additionally, on May 9, the sequel is set to surpass the first film’s entire domestic run of $124.7 million in just 9 days.

Director Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and the lead cast of Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci all waited for the opportune moment to create the sequel. According to a report in Variety, Streep, Hathaway, and Blunt each received $12.5 million as part of a “favoured nations” agreement regarding their compensation. This arrangement also means that the trio could receive substantial bonuses as the sequel continues to achieve significant milestones.

The original film, reportedly produced on a budget of $35 million, went on to earn $326 million globally. In contrast, the sequel’s budget was over double at $100 million, which the director indicated was primarily allocated to the cast.
