As reported by Deadline, the legacy sequel generated $101.8 million in its opening week in the US and $222.2 million worldwide. In its second weekend, it is competing with another sequel, Mortal Kombat II, which premiered on Friday, May 8. However, the predominantly female audience for The Devil Wears Prada 2 is returning to view the film multiple times, which could lead to earnings of approximately $40 to $50 million in its second weekend, especially with Mother’s Day. Additionally, on May 9, the sequel is set to surpass the first film’s entire domestic run of $124.7 million in just 9 days.
The original film, reportedly produced on a budget of $35 million, went on to earn $326 million globally. In contrast, the sequel’s budget was over double at $100 million, which the director indicated was primarily allocated to the cast.
