A man travels to a remote Greek island to claim his late father’s inheritance in a personal and emotional Odyssey in A Whole Person Almost (Enas olokliros anthropos schedon), the feature directorial debut of Greek-German filmmaker Efthimis Kosemund-Sanidis.

The film world premieres in the Proxima competition of the 60th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), which takes place in the Czech spa town July 3-11.

Co-written by Elizampetta Ilia Georgiadou, the movie features cinematography by Christos Voudouris and editing by Livia Neroutsopoulou. Anastasis Georgoulas and Flomaria Papadaki (Animal) star in the Greece, Bulgaria, Germany, Cyprus and Romania co-production. The film is produced by Horsefly Films in co-production with Red Carpet, Wunderlust, Felony Film, Tangaj Production, ZDF/Das Kleine Fernsehspiel andARTE, ERT, Onassis Culture, Faliro House Productions and Panta Rhei.

Ilias arrives on the aforementioned remote island for his late father’s inheritance. “But the longer he is forced to stay on the island, the more his initial indifference begins to fade,” reads a synopsis. “As he interacts with the local community, he uncovers his father’s past and, with it, a portrait of a man which differs significantly from his own memories.”

His gradually awakening emotions intensify when he meets the local girl Kalliopi and experiences “sudden spasms in his body and mysterious power outages that affect the entire island.”

The KVIFF website promises “a tender picture of a world that is both real and mystical – a place where, despite distant echoes foreboding the possible end of the world, we encounter love, reconciliation, and unexpected understanding.”

THR has two exclusive clips from A Whole Person Almost that you can check out here to whet your appetite ahead of the film’s KVIFF premiere on Sunday, July 5.

The first scene features a conversation between Ilias and Kalliopi about clouds and more. Hey, does that cloud look a bit like U.S. President Donald Trump!? You tell me after watching this exclusive film clip below! It also surprises with talk about Republicans in Michigan, the right way to pronounce that state – and a donut shop. But see for yourself…

The second clip gives us an early glimpse of what the locals may be trying to do about those mysterious power outages on the island. Check out that second exclusive film clip from A Whole Person Almost right here.
