Beninese singer Angélique Kidjo has become the first African musician to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, adding another landmark achievement to her celebrated international career.
Kidjo was recognised in the Recording category for her contribution to music and her role in taking African culture and stories to audiences around the world.
The honour caps more than four decades of music for the five-time Grammy Award winner, who has released 18 albums and established herself as one of the continent’s most prominent musical figures.
Hollywood Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said Kidjo’s artistry had made a lasting impact on audiences across the world.
“Angélique Kidjo’s extraordinary artistry and global influence have inspired audiences across generations and continents,” Martinez said.

She added, “We are proud to honour her as the first African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognising her remarkable contributions to music and culture around the world.”
Kidjo began performing at an early age before building an international following with a musical style that blends traditional African sounds with jazz, funk, R&B and global pop.
Her career has seen her work with prominent artistes from Nigeria, including Burna Boy, Yemi Alade and Mr Eazi, as well as international stars such as Alicia Keys, Peter Gabriel and John Legend.
Beyond her recordings and performances, Kidjo has been a prominent advocate for African music and culture, helping to create greater international visibility for artistes from the continent.
She has also used her global profile to support social causes, particularly programmes focused on girls’ education and the empowerment of women across Africa.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame recognition further cements Kidjo’s status as an influential African cultural ambassador whose work has extended beyond music into advocacy, philanthropy and global representation.
