Aryana Sayeed, a leading Afghan singer and women’s rights advocate, has become the first Afghan artist to be nominated for a Hollywood Music in Media Award. She also opened the 16th annual ceremony in Hollywood with a live performance.
Sayeed’s track “We Believe in Hope”, co-written with composer Jeff Beal and lyricist Joan Beal, and performed with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, earned a nomination in the Original Song – Independent Film category. The song appears in the film Rule Breakers, which went on to win the award for Best Score – Independent Film at the same ceremony.
“Being recognized at this level was deeply meaningful,” Sayeed said. “This honor belongs to every Afghan woman, every young girl who dreams despite adversity, and every artist who continues to hold onto hope.”
The event was also streamed live via the Laurel Canyon Live app, expanding the reach of her milestone performance.
Earlier this year, Sayeed was also honored with the 2025 High Note Global Prize, supported by United Nations Human Rights, for her contributions to social justice through music.
