This article contains discussions of sexual assault that some readers may find upsetting.

BBC One and BBC Three are set to air Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, a new documentary exploring the allegations of criminal sexual conduct by Hollywood actor Jared Leto.

As reported by BBC News, four women have accused Leto of criminal sexual conduct, with the alleged offences having taken place when they were teenagers.

One of the women alleges she was sexually assaulted in a motel bathroom when she was 17. Another alleges that Leto threatened her with sexual assault when she was 19.

A third woman alleges she had underage sex with Leto when she was 17.

The fourth woman alleges she was groomed by Leto, saying he abused his celebrity status by making “repeated sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16”.

In a statement shared with Radio Times, Jared Leto said: “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.”

Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret will air tonight (29 July) at 9pm, followed by a repeat on BBC Three at 10:40pm.

Roman Kemp: The Fight for Young Lives at has been dropped from the schedules to allow space to air the new documentary.

The documentary is already available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

The synopsis reads: “A BBC documentary has uncovered allegations of criminal sexual conduct by multiple women at the hands of Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto.

“All were teenagers at the time of the alleged offences. One said she was subjected to sexual assault, another that the Hollywood star threatened her with sexual assault, and a third said he had sex with her in California when she was underage, which would be classified as statutory rape.

“Leto won the 2014 Academy Award for best supporting actor for Dallas Buyers Club and has appeared in hit films such as Fight Club, Blade Runner 2049, Suicide Squad and, most recently, Masters of the Universe. He also has an award-winning rock band, Thirty Seconds to Mars.

“The film contains allegations from five other women, four of them between 16 and 18 at the time, that the star abused his celebrity status to get their phone numbers. Many of his repeated phone calls to them were sexually explicit in nature, they said.”

The BBC says it has “corroborated a number of the women’s accounts with friends and family who were told about the encounters with Leto at the time”.

The report notes it has also seen pictures and messages that support the women’s accounts.

Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret will air on Wednesday 29 July at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
