A struggling Hollywood actor falls into a life of crime in this highly anticipated second novel from Hollywood Hustle author and four-time Emmy Award nominee Jon Lindstrom. Keep reading for Jeff Ayers’ review of Hollywood Payback.

Jake Ferguson once seemed destined for stardom, an up-and-coming actor with real promise, until drugs and alcohol derailed his life. Desperate and broke, he makes a reckless decision to rob a group of drug dealers, a choice that turns deadly when he accidentally kills someone during the getaway. The incident, caught on camera, seals his fate. Two decades later, Jake is released from prison, his freedom largely earned by his testimony against his former associates.

Reentering society proves just as daunting as his time behind bars. The world has moved on without him, and finding his footing is anything but easy. Jake takes a job working for Eric, the new boyfriend of his ex, Angela. While things appear stable at first, Jake soon suspects Eric may be nudging him back toward the same destructive path he fought so hard to escape. At the same time, a budding connection with Carla, a compassionate waitress, offers him a glimpse of something better, giving him more incentive to stay clean and crime-free.

Lindstrom crafts Jake as a deeply sympathetic protagonist, one readers will root for as he struggles toward redemption in a city that rarely offers second chances. The unforgiving, chew-you-up-and-spit-you-out culture of Los Angeles pulses through every page, driving a story that’s nearly impossible to put down. Following the strong debut of Hollywood Hustle, this follow-up raises the stakes and delivers an even more compelling payback.
