In its 15th week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, a breakout hit about Texas has now surpassed two iconic songs to make even more chart history.
Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” has been quite the sensation, consistently appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 charts since its October 2025 release as part of her album Dandelion. The song has grown even more popular in the last few months, topping the Hot 100 for the first time in February. Since then, it has stayed atop the rankings, putting it in some seriously rare air.
The single has surpassed Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” from 1992–93 and Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” from 2005 for the most weeks at No. 1 among non-holiday titles by women without co-billed artists. If you ignore the holiday qualifier, the song only trails Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” for the longest Hot 100 command among songs by only women.
Regardless of genre or gender, Langley is also in a position to accumulate enough weeks to achieve an all-time record. She is currently in a strong position to overtake Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” with 19 weeks, as well as her country tourmate Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” at 16 weeks.
Langley, an Alabama native, wrote the country hit about losing a man to a woman from Texas with Texas country star Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. Langley told Billboard about the song’s inception at a writers retreat with Lambert. She recalled Lambert telling a story about owning a pet kangaroo at a young age and getting pulled over by the police with the animal in the passenger seat.
“The kangaroo got her out of a ticket, and she said, ‘Of course, I had Texas plates, too.’ I went, ‘Well, she’s from Texas, I can tell…’ Forty-five minutes later, we had the song written,” Langley shared.
The achievement comes after an incredible year for Langley, who won an American Music Award and swept the ACM Awards with seven accolades, including Artist-Songwriter of the Year and Female Artist of the Year.
Due to incredible demand, Langley has added 21 more dates to her already sold-out The Dandelion Tour. Langley is set to hit Austin, Corpus Christi and Fort Worth in August.
