The Nightingale, sisters Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning‘s first time starring in a movie together, is shifting its release plans.

The film will now open on March 19, 2027, a month later than its previous Feb. 12, 2027 release date. Sony’s TriStar is behind the project, and believes the leadup to Easter Weekend (March 26-28) will be a good launching point for the film, and provide female-centric counter programming against Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which also opens March 19.

The news comes days after both Fannings earned Emmy nominations, with Elle Fanning nominated in the lead comedy actress category for Margo’s Got Money Troubles, and Dakota Fanning nominated in the supporting actress in a limited series, anthology or movie category for All Her Fault.

The Nightingale tells the story of two sisters separated during World War II as they seek to survive in war-torn Germany and France. It’s long been in the works, with Tristar winning the rights to author Kristin Hannah’s book in 2015 and the Fannings attaching themselves in 2019. Michael Morris directs from Dana Stevens’ script.

Last year, Dakota Fanning told The Hollywood Reporter that the sisters had received overtures in the past to share the screen together before, but had resisted. (They did play the same character at different ages in 2001’s I Am Sam.)

“I think it was nice that we could forge our own paths and have our separate careers and discover ourselves as ourselves when we were younger, and not muddle that. Now that we’re older, we really do want to mesh it all and experience that. We’ve never even read lines together,” Dakota Fanning told THR.
