While Elisha Cuthbert was a staple on screens for decades, she more or less disappeared in the past four years. And now that the Happy Endings alum is back, she’s explaining why she departed Hollywood (and it’s something many actresses have done at some point)!
During an appearance on the Today Show, Cuthbert revealed she left for a while after she became pregnant with her second child.
“I realized I worked all four years through our first child, and it was really hard,” she said. “So, when we had our second, I just felt like I didn’t want to waste any second of it, and I didn’t want to be on set. I just felt like I needed to be at home with the kids, and I enjoyed every minute.”

She added that she decided to come back in 2026 for the film Every Year After for one reason: “They’re in school now full time. I feel like I have the space and the energy and the heart to kind of leave them and do it.”

For those who don’t know, the House of Wax alum and ice hockey player Dion Phaneuf got engaged in 2012 and married the following year. They’ve welcomed two children named Zaphire, born in 2017, and Fable, born in 2022.
