Before CGI started handling most of Hollywood’s destruction, action movies went all-in with practical explosions that rattled the screen and probably terrified a few stunt crews along the way.

Cars flipped for real, buildings erupted in massive fireballs, and action heroes casually walked away from the chaos like it was just another day at the job.

Now, Industrial Light & Magic compositing supervisor Todd Vaziri has put together a fantastic video tribute celebrating that gloriously excessive era of practical effects filmmaking, and it’s packed with some of the coolest explosions ever captured on film.

The compilation pulls together unforgettable moments from Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop II, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Last Action Hero, Commando, and Blown Away, delivering a fiery reminder of why those classic action movies still hit so hard today.

Watching the montage, one thing becomes hilariously clear: Arnold Schwarzenegger seemingly spent the ‘80s and ‘90s personally detonating every available structure in Hollywood.

The video is a pure adrenaline rush for action movie fans and a fun reminder of a time when filmmakers solved cinematic problems the old-fashioned way… by blowing up EVERYTHING for real!
