The Golden Globe Awards has received its first Emmy nomination in the outstanding variety special (live) category, for the first time since 2020.

The 83rd Golden Globes were revealed as part of the nominees for live variety special at the 2026 Emmys on Wednesday. The awards show is nominated against the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny; the 68th Annual Grammy Awards; the Oscars; and the 78th Tony Awards.

The Golden Globe Awards received its last Emmy nod in the category six years ago, for the 78th edition. The awards show did receive a nomination in 2021 for production design for a variety special, though the 2026 Emmy nominations mark the show’s break back into the live variety special category.

In 2023, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which owned and presented the Golden Globes — having faced widespread criticism for its ethics, financial practices and lack of diversity since a 2021 Los Angeles Times exposé, which resulted in the loss of the TV broadcasting deal that provided the organization with most of its revenue — sold the Globes to Dick Clark Productions (which shares a parent company, PMC, with The Hollywood Reporter) and Eldridge (a holding company owned by Todd Boehly).

The 2026 Golden Globes saw Hamnet named best motion picture, drama, while One Battle After Another won for best motion picture, comedy or musical. (See the full list of winners at the 83rd Golden Globes here.)

The Pitt topped the 2026 Emmy noms with 25 overall nods, although Hacks trailed very closely behind with 24, setting a record for the most comedy series noms in a single year.

See the full list of 2026 Emmy nominations here. The 78th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live Monday, Sept. 14 on NBC and stream live on Peacock, where Mariska Hargitay will host.
