He has one of the most distinctive voices in film, and now Morgan Freeman is taking it to a new type of project as well: his first album.
The Hollywood legend has launched an unexpected career pivot, releasing a music project at 89.

Freeman has narrated and produced his first album, Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience.
The 12-track record follows 100 years of blues music, featuring covers by other blues musicians and a three-date tour in support.
“I heard the blues for the first time on my grandmother’s porch in the Mississippi Delta, and it has never left me,” Freeman told Rolling Stone.
His connection to the genre goes beyond the album, with Freeman co-founding Ground Zero Blues Club in Mississippi 25 years ago.
It is Freeman’s first own music project, but he has contributed to other songs in the past – including spoken word and narration throughout 21 Savage & Metro Boomin’s 2020 album Savage Mode II.
He also hasn’t given up his day job.
Freeman currently stars as the US secretary of state in Taylor Sheridan series Lioness, alongside Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldaña.
His most recent movie was 2025’s Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the third film in the Now You See Me franchise.

Freeman has been working for more than six decades but has no plans to retire.
“Sometimes the idea of retirement would float past me but, as soon as my agent says there’s a job or somebody wants you, or they’ve made an offer, the whole thing just boils back into where it was yesterday: how much you’re going to pay, where we’re gonna be?” he told The Guardian last year.
“The appetite is still there. I will concede that it’s dimmed a little. But not enough to make a serious difference.”
