Director Quentin Tarantino has harshly criticized modern Hollywood, calling it a “tasteless sausage factory” that no longer inspires him.

The Oscar winner, known for the films “Pulp Fiction” and “Kill Bill,” wrote for Sight and Sound about his views on the films being made today.

“Since the pandemic… it’s almost impossible for a new film to come out that I don’t break down into its component parts,” the director wrote.

“Flaws, illogicalities, pandering to the audience, poorly chosen actors, or just plain stupidity usually sink every new film that comes from the tasteless sausage factory that once called itself Hollywood,” Tarantino adds.

“Today, the very concept of the film inspires me more contempt than generosity. And that’s entirely justified, because compared to the films of the last six years, the eighties seem like the thirties,” he continues.

The director then listed several films he had enjoyed in recent years.

“I’ve seen movies that I liked – ‘West Side Story’, ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’ and ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2’, as well as a few others. But none of them have captivated me so much and taken me to that magical land of enjoyment that I once visited and because of which I loved film more than all other arts,” claims Tarantino.

“I’d rather read a book these days,” he wrote, then praised the film “The Rip,” starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, describing it as “an exciting police thriller with an original premise that very cleverly fulfills the audience’s expectations.”

“The whole package worked for me. Joe Carnahan’s direction, a great cast, the look of the film thanks to director of photography Juan Miguel Azpiroza, but the real driving force behind this extraordinary ensemble is the sensational script written by Carnahan and Mike McGrail,” the famous director pointed out.

Tarantino is known for being outspoken about his taste in film. Last year, he caused controversy with his criticism of actors Paul Dane and Matthew Lillard.

Many Hollywood celebrities came to Dane’s defense, while Lillard admitted that the director’s criticism “hurt” him.

Tarantino is currently working on a stage play in London called “The Popinjay Cavalier,” which is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
