Following the box office success of “The Backrooms,” studios continue to seek new stories among internet horror tales.
Hollywood continues to turn internet folklore into full-length films. The next big screen hero will be “Jeff the Killer” — a creepypasta character with a pale face and an unnaturally wide smile.
According to TheWrap, the horror film is being developed by Tongal studio in collaboration with blogger and short film director Savannah Moss. She will serve as a producer and help define the creative direction of the adaptation.
Moss grew up on such internet horror stories and has already used Jeff in her videos. The creators want to gather the disparate folklore around the character into a cohesive story and make him more believable:
“We have a unique opportunity to take a character everyone knows and make a truly scary, grounded horror film while staying true to his origins. I don’t just want to retell the creepypasta — I want to make Jeff terrifyingly real.”

“Jeff the Killer” will be another internet horror story to make it to the big screen. Kane Parsons’ “The Backrooms,” with a budget of $10 million, grossed over $395 million and became A24’s highest-grossing film. Following that, adaptations of Trevor Henderson’s Siren Head and Cartoon Cat were put into development, and the SCP Foundation will appear in a new film in the “V/H/S” series.
