Matt Damon shares ‘The Odyssey’ as his hardest film yet in his 38-year movie career.

American actor Matt Damon is set to take audiences on an epic Greek mythology adventure in the upcoming film The Odyssey.

Starring as the legendary hero Odysseus, Matt brings to life the journey chronicled in Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem.

Taking on the iconic role came with its own challenges, with the actor admitting that making the film pushed everyone involved to their limits. It is marked as his hardest movie yet in his 38-year movie career.

In an exclusive interview with Lyn Ching, the actor described the experience as “a nightmare in all the right ways.”

“It just requires so much effort and expertise from so many people. We all were pushed harder than we had ever been pushed,” he added.

Despite the demanding production, Matt’s fellow cast members and the film’s director were quick to praise his talent and dedication.

Director Christopher Nolan pointed to Matt’s “incredible range” as the reason he was the perfect choice to portray Odysseus.

“If you look at Matt’s other performances, he’s often an accessible everyman. Whether he’s playing a character in ‘The Martian’ or ‘We Bought a Zoo’ or ‘Good Will Hunting.’ But he’s also Jason Bourne that’s a kind of cold assassin. Odysseus needed certainly both of those things. He’s an actor of incredible range,” Christopher shared.

Co-star Tom Holland also commended Matt, saying his kindness and professionalism made him someone to look up to on set.

“His optimism, joy, and passion for the work. It feels like that hunger and drive to achieve something that has never been done before was exactly what it would have been like at the beginning of his career. That torch has never gone out, maybe even gotten brighter,” Tom said.

“And for me as an actor, to see someone who is leading by example, knows every crew member’s name and has a personal relationship with everyone on set, really gave me so much to look up to and to learn from.”

Reflecting on the film, Matt also spoke about how the story resonated with his own life journey of “trying to grow and evolve, do better in every facet of your life.”

“And experience the wonder and joy of life and build real relationships with people, particularly in your home life, becoming a father, and all of what that means. The responsibility but also the care in those relationships,” Matt shared.

“It’s all connected. The work that we do draws on our own lives. There’s a deep connection between our purpose and our work and the things that we hold the dearest.”

The Odyssey is set to premiere in Philippine cinemas on Wednesday, July 15.

Along with Matt and Tom are other Hollywood stars Elliot Page, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and many more.
