Siena Film Foundation, the Israeli boutique film investment fund founded and run by filmmakers/producers Dorit Hakim and Lee Shira, is expanding its activities beyond the local industry and joining the financing and production framework of high-profile international films.
Its first major Hollywood project is the upcoming crime thriller By Any Means, starring Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
The film, directed by Elegance Bratton, is set in the 1960s and tells the story of a mafia hitman and a Black FBI agent investigating civil rights-era murders in Mississippi. The movie is scheduled to be released in the US in September.
The foundation’s next project will be The Housewife, a psychological thriller about a New York Times journalist who tracks down a suspected former Nazi officer living in Queens and befriends the suspect’s elegant wife. The movie will star Naomi Watts, Tye Sheridan, and Michael Imperioli.
Siena Film Foundation was established by Hakim, whose credits include Moon in the 12th House, Savoy, and Due West, and Shira, who has worked on movies and series including Footnote, Our Boys, and Scenes from a Marriage.
The company has produced and supported acclaimed documentaries and feature films, among them Kafka’s Last Trial, Taboo: Amos Guttman, and Outsider. Freud.
