Australian music legend Jim Manzie joins Paul Cashmere on Noise11.com to revisit the lost legacy of The Breakers and reflect on an extraordinary career spanning pub rock, punk-pop, songwriting and Hollywood horror soundtracks.

In this Noise11.com interview, Jimmy Manzie discusses the rediscovery of the Breakers recordings collected on Night After Night, revealing how much material had been left sitting in the vault for decades. He talks about collaborating with punk-influenced songwriter Jarryn Wirth and explains how legendary American music figure Kim Fowley brought the band together after scouting Australian talent in the late 1970s.

Jimmy Manzie also shares stories about writing with Fowley, the rumoured KISS interest in “Lipstick and Leather”, and the influences behind Breakers songs like “When I’m On TV”. He recalls appearing on Countdown, meeting songwriter John Farrar, and performing live in the cult Australian film Puberty Blues.

The conversation also explores Manzie’s earlier success with Ol’ 55, including the writing of “On The Prowl”, before tracing his unexpected move to Los Angeles where he became a composer for horror films including Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III and From A Whisper To A Scream starring Vincent Price.

It’s a fascinating look at Australian rock history, songwriting craft and one musician’s remarkable journey through multiple eras of the music industry.
