John Fogerty wants Timothee Chalamet to play him in a biopic.

John Fogerty has a biopic in the works

The Creedence Clearwater Revival singer revealed there’s a movie of his life in the pipeline and he was so impressed by the 30-year-old actor’s portrayal of Bob Dylan in 2024’s Oscar-nominated A Complete Unknown, he’d like to get him involved.

Asked who he wanted to play him in a film, the 81-year-old star told Us Weekly magazine: “Whoever that Bob Dylan guy was. That would be great.”

The Bad Moon Rising hitmaker teased his biopic will be a “thrill”, with his marriage to Julie Lebiedzinski – who he wed in 1991 – set to be a particular focus, as well as his lengthy career.

He said of the project: “That’s going to be a thrill. We are well into this thing. That is about all I can say about it.

“There have been some twists and turns in my career. I think the most important thing is what really happened in my life — I actually fell right into a love story that’s true.

“I’m the most grateful and appreciative man for [Julie] because the whole rest of my life has been a dream.

This week, John was honoured with the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s highest accolade, the Johnny Mercer Award, having been inducted into the hall in 2005.

During his acceptance speech, he celebrated the “joy” of music.

He said: “I love music! It’s supposed to be about joy. It’s supposed to be about fun.

He went on to explain that the “concept of taste” in music is essentially, “Why do some songs suck and some songs are great?”

He added: “It seems like the great ones just flow effortlessly. There’s no wasted moments. … I wanted to reach that very high bar. I think that’s something everybody in this room understands.”

Ahead of receiving the honour, John admitted he “teared up” when he was told he’d been awarded the prize.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: “I didn’t know there were any more awards. When they called, I happened to be on the tour bus, I was sitting at a little table looking straight at my wife.

“The Songwriters Hall of Fame told me about this highest honour, the Johnny Mercer award. It’s everything, it’s my whole life, it’s all of it that I’ve ever dreamed about, and they’re giving me this award, basically saying ‘You did a good job.’

“I admit that I looked at Julie, my wife, and my eyes started to tear up, I was really taken aback. It took my breath away.

“I grew up learning about all the songwriters that have come before me. Some people call it standing on the shoulders of giants, my mother had pointed songwriters out to me as a very young kid. We’d talk about songwriters like Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael. Then of course in my teen years I’d learn about Lennon and McCartney, Carole King.”
