The next generation of Hollywood talent may debut with familiar last names and well-known parents, such as Kate Hudson and Brenda Song, who think their kids’ acting future might be inevitable. The “Running Point” costars opened up about their kids possibly stepping into the spotlight during a joint interview with Will Marfuggi alongside co-creator Mindy Kaling.

Both actresses admitted that showbiz could very well be in their children’s future.

“There’s No Way Out”

Kate didn’t hesitate when asked about her kids following her path. “I don’t see a way out of it,” she said. Brenda echoed the sentiment almost immediately. “There’s no way,” she agreed. “My kids are only 3 and 5. They’re still really young,” Brenda explained. “But the 3-year-old, I’m like, ‘Oh no. I can see it!’” She shares Dakota, 4, and Carson, 3, with fiancé Macaulay Culkin.

While Song’s parents are not actors, for Kate Hudson, the connection to entertainment feels almost genetic. The actress, who shares three children with former partners Chris Robinson, Matt Bellamy, and fiancé Danny Fujikawa, joked about her family’s natural inclination toward showbiz.

“Our family, I feel like we come out either with doing a scene [or] dancing,” she said. “I don’t know what it is about the DNA in our family.” She added, “It’s kind of crazy. Everybody in our family… it’s definitely a showbiz thing, or it’s just a creative storyteller has to be doing something performance-oriented, all of them.” Hudson is the daughter of Goldie Hawn and the stepdaughter of Kurt Russell.

Passion Over Fame

Despite the excitement around their children’s potential, both actresses said Hollywood isn’t for the faint of heart. “In our family, love it,” Kate emphasized. “If you don’t love it, get out.”

Hudson described Hollywood as “unpredictable and unstable,” therefore, true passion is the only thing that sustains a career in entertainment. “If you really love it, then you’re gonna love even the moments that are hard,” she said. “Where you know you have to figure out other means so that you can pay for your kids in school and things like that.”

“You will always know that you’re in the right business, because you just have to do it,” she added.

While their kids’ futures remain unwritten, Kate and Brenda are firmly focused on their current project. Season two of “Running Point” is set to premiere on April 23 on Netflix. The show is continuing the story of Kate’s character, Isla Gordon, who, against all odds, is leading the Los Angeles Waves to success while navigating personal challenges and family dynamics.
