CHICAGO – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for the new release THE BRINK OF WAR, written and directed by Michael Russell Gunn, regarding the 1986 Reykjavik Summit between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev. In select theaters since August 14th, see local listings.

Jeff Daniels is President Ronald Wilson Reagan in 1986, as Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev (Jared Harris) proposed a surprise summit ahead of a planned D.C. summit, in the neutral territory of Reykjavik, Iceland. The subjects are divided, as Gorbachev wants nuclear de-escalation and Reagan leads with human rights, which includes an individual case related to the United States. As the two leaders negotiate, the behind-scenes-folks include Secretary of State George Schultz (J.K. Simmons), in addition to the leader’s wives Raisa Gorbachev (Branka Katic), who attended with her husband, and Nancy Reagan (Hope Davis) who did not. As the two men thrust and parry with their needs in this negotiation, the fate the of the world hangs in the balance.
