Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has movie fans buzzing around the world. From Hollywood giants like Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway to the next generation of big names including Zendaya and Tom Holland, the epic action film is truly a star-studded piece of cinema – and fans might be surprised to learn one of the main stars has an over decade-long royal connection.
Sixteen years ago, Robert Pattinson, who recently took on the part of Antinous in The Odyssey, shared the screen with former actress and future member of the royal family, Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex scored a small part in the 2010 coming-of-age romance film Remember Me, which starred heartthrob Robert in the leading role.
The film follows a grieving young man named Tyler, played by the Twilight actor, whose life changes after he meets and falls in love with Ally (Emilie de Ravin), who is dealing with her own trauma. Meghan joined the all-star cast, including A-listers Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, for a small part as a bartender, aptly also named Megan.
The Duchess of Sussex appeared in a bar scene with Tyler and his friend Adrian, played by Tate Ellington. After the latter tells her she looks great, Meghan, in character, shuts him down quickly and responds with the single line: “Do not speak.”
Robert Pattinson praises Meghan
They might not have shared the screen for too long, but Meghan once reportedly praised her Remember Me co-star Robert as a “humble” and “lovely guy”.
“He’s a really lovely guy and a really great example to be able to watch someone who is young, whose stardom has really taken over his life in such a huge way, and yet he’s still gracious, humble and cool. I think that is really endearing,” she said, per The Independent.
Meanwhile, following Meghan’s engagement to Prince Harry in 2017, Robert told E! News on a red carpet that working with the Duchess of Sussex was his “claim to fame”.
“She seems great. I worked with her as well…she’s in Remember Me. It’s my claim to fame!” Robert told the outlet in November 2017.
Meghan’s acting career
Prior to meeting Prince Harry and stepping away from acting upon joining the royal family, Meghan made a name for herself on the smash hit American drama series Suits as paralegal-turned-attorney Rachel Zane.
“Before Suits, I did a pilot every single year. I even did a pilot for ABC with Patrick J. Adams, who plays Mike Ross on the show, like six years ago. So long!” Meghan reflected on her journey making it in the TV industry to Marie Claire in 2013.
Prior to Suits, Meghan appeared in Ashton Kutcher’s 2005 film A Lot like Love and had a brief cameo on the popular teen drama 90210 in 2008. She’s also credited in the 2011 comedy Horrible Bosses, starring Jennifer Aniston, and was in the 2016 romance movie Dater’s Handbook.
