“I was in Glasgow for three and a half, maybe four weeks. Loved it so much. They were so nice there.”

Hollywood actor Neil Patrick Harris has given Glasgow a rave review saying he “loved it so much” when visiting for his latest film, adding: “It was so fun.”

The 53-year-old star spent almost four weeks in the Scottish city filming for Sunny Dancer – a coming-of-age comedy about a teenager spending her summer at a camp for young people affected by cancer.

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday, August 5, Harris shared how much he enjoyed his time in Glasgow. He said: “I was in Glasgow for three and a half, maybe four weeks. Loved it so much. They were so nice there.

“We went to a pub, and they said that there’s going to be someone playing the guitar, and everyone’s going to be singing along.

“I thought, ‘oh no, what’s that going to be like?’

“We went and it was so fun. All these big blokes singing all these songs, and we’re all just dancing around – I loved it.”

Harris went on to praise the cast of his new film, which includes Game Of Thrones star Bella Ramsey, Happy Valley actor James Norton and Baby Reindeer actress Jessica Gunning.

“The cast is so great (…) and the young cast is so good and so winning,” he said.

Harris also told hosts Josie Gibson and Paddy McGuinness he has a “soft spot” for his younger co-stars.

Harris said: “I started acting when I was 12 or 13 years old, so I have a soft spot for younger performers.

“All these kids are such wonderful performers. But they’re not kids, they all have amazing singular stories.”

Reflecting on the atmosphere on set, he added: “You could feel everyone appreciating the experience.

“It wasn’t that we were making a movie and staying in our little trailers and coming when we were needed.

“We were all getting to know each other. It felt like a group of people making something fun, and I think it shows when you watch it.”

Harris has had a decades-long career in acting, and rose to fame as the star of medical TV drama Doogie Howser, MD.

He has since appeared in shows such as sitcom How I Met Your Mother, the TV adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events and the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special.

His film roles include Gone Girl, The Smurfs franchise and A Million Ways To Die In The West – and he has also had a successful musical theatre career which has seen him win a Tony Award.
