Prime Video is getting into the regional sports business.
The Amazon-owned streamer and the National Hockey League have struck a deal for Prime Video to become the exclusive local streaming home for six teams. The Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues will stream their games on Prime in each club’s regional territory. The deal kicks in when the 2026-27 season begins Sept. 29.
The Ducks and Stars are departing streamer Victory+, which has faced an array of financial issues in the past year, for Prime Video. The other four teams were set to be part of an arrangement where the NHL would centralize production for those teams’ local telecasts as the regional sports network model has fractured in recent years.
“We’re excited to build upon our strong relationship with the NHL and provide fans with more ways to connect with the local teams they love,” said Charlie Neiman, head of sports partnerships for Prime Video. “We have firmly established Prime Video as a primary destination for sports and look forward to helping these teams broaden the reach and accessibility of their live games.”
Each team will set subscription rates and announce other details of their streaming packages as the season approaches.
“Fans want an easy way to find and follow their favorite teams, and this agreement with Prime Video gives clubs the flexibility to meet that demand as the market evolves,” said David Proper, the NHL’s chief media officer and senior executive vp. “Amazon has been a terrific partner to the NHL, and we’re excited to expand our relationship as Prime Video grows its NHL offerings. Together, we’re creating new opportunities for clubs to reach fans and delivering a premium, accessible regional viewing experience.”
Prime already has a similar deal with the Seattle Kraken, whose games are part of a Prime subscription in the team’s local market. The streamer also carries local telecasts for a number of MLB, NBA and WNBA teams and offers a number of regional sports networks via subscription for Amazon account holders.
