West Hollywood, CA (The Hollywood Times) 8/8/26 – Created, organized, and headlined by Kitten Kay Sera, the world-famous “Pinkest Woman in the World”, yesterday’s 2nd Girlactic Music Fest brought a loud, fun, and unapologetic night to the Whisky A Go-Go. The lineup featured an all-women (and non-binary) roster of genuinely talented musicians who kept the crowd jumping all night.
On Stage and in the Crowd
One of the coolest parts of the show was the mix of ages in the room. The lineup spanned generations, including one talented 13-year-old musician showing us their serious skills. As for the older performers on stage, their ages remain none of our business.
That multi-generational connection showed up in the crowd, too. At the end of the show during the raffle, two lucky audience members walked away with pink guitars: one adult fan, and one 12-year-old girl. Watching the younger winner grab her new guitar was a delight; it looked like it already belonged to her.
Heavy Metal
The opening act, The Iron Orchids, set energy from the start. They let us know we were there to rock! As the lineup moved through The Deffades, Plum, and The Maraschinos, a clear style dominated the room: a heavy, electric sound inspired by 90s punk-metal bands. Each band matched their high-energy attitude with really exceptional instrument skills. These girls came to play hard.
While heavy chords carried most of the night, the lineup had variety. SpaceBunz brought a completely different artistic style to their set, bringing upbeat LA grooves that kept the energy flowing.
The Galaxy is Pink
Later sets from Tomorrow’s Anthem and Flailing Idiot kept the floor bumping before headliners Pinktastic Plastixx took the stage to bring the night to an epic finish.
They kicked off their performance with an all-female choir stylin’ in pretty pink choir robes, who sang alongside the band for their powerful opening song. After the choir exited, their director, Dot Todman, surprised the crowd with an incredible solo performance. Then the Pinktastic Plastixx returned to the stage to finish the show.
Delivering my favorite set of the festival, they declared their anthem “PUNK IS PINK,” educating the audience while bringing the entirely beautiful and fun spacey, pink vision together and showing that hard rock and bright pink go hand in hand.
