Xbox is making a push for more of its IP to land on the silver screen.
Microsoft’s decision to chase multiple live-action movies could be somewhat influenced by the recent success of movie adaptations of video games, with the likes of Backrooms and Iron Lung both scoring favourable reviews with critics and fans alike.
Delta Squad Is In Yo’ House, B****!
The Coalition has been making a lot of noise lately, following Xbox’s Gears of War: E-Day Direct at Summer Game Fest, and an extended look at Xbox Series X gameplay at this year’s State of Unreal. It’s an exciting time for fans of the girthy human-tank we call Marcus Fenix, but the hype doesn’t end with E-Day.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, new details about Netflix’s live-action Gears of War movie have surfaced, revealing an overview of the plot and who the movie is likely to feature.
It’s been known for a while now that director David Leitch (The Fall Guy, Bullet Train, Deadpool 2) would be at the helm of the project, with fellow Marvel cohort Jon Spaihts (Dune, Doctor Strange) to write the script.
According to an official description, Netflix’s Gears movie will tell “the origin story of Delta Squad, a ragtag crew of soldiers who wage a desperate war for survival against the Locust, a race of subterranean creatures set on destroying humanity.”
That means we’ll likely see the gruff Marcus Fenix and lovable Dominic Santiago reunited with wise-guy Damon Baird, and thrashball-star turned COG, the one and only, Cole Train baby! WOO!
Sea of Thieves Plots A Course For The Silver Screen

Looks like that Xbox/Marvel connection is in full flow, as Destin Daniel Cretton (Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is set to produce a live-action Sea Of Thieves movie.
There’s no word on who will direct or star in the film adaptation of Sea of Thieves, but speaking to EW, Xbox Games Studio Head Matt Booty had this to say:
“The main character of a Sea of Thieves game is actually the player and the community… So if you sit down to think about Sea of Thieves, it’s not, Who are the main characters? What’s the plot? It’s a super social game, but there’s a tone to Sea of Thieves. It’s built on a very cooperative community, so you can start to sense what that’s going to be like.”
Who knows what the Sea of Thieves film will focus on, but at least there’s over eight years’ worth of content to pull from.
