Stop us if you’ve heard this before: That Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie? It’s doing pretty darn well. Insanely well. Like $2.24 billion and counting worth of well.

Now, going into its fifth weekend, the Sony-Marvel blockbuster is quietly showing another type of strength: Even with two new major films opening, exhibitors are keeping Brand New Day in more theaters than any other movie.

It’s close, mind you, but still: Brand New Day will be in 3,678 theaters, more than any other title, just barely dropping from last weekend’s 4,006.

The Looney Tunes legal comedy, Coyote vs. Acme is opening in slightly fewer theaters — 3,575 — despite very strong reviews (95 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes; read The Hollywood Reporter‘s review) and strong audience scores (92 percent). Coyote vs. Acme is tracking for a somewhat modest $14 million to $22 million domestic opening. While it might not prove to be a hit, its overall reception is certainly making the case that it was a movie worth releasing rather than shelving for a tax write-down, as Warner Bros. originally planned.

Then there’s Ridley Scott’s post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars opening right behind Coyote in 3,330 theaters (the film has largely negative reviews from critics — though THR‘s review was positive — with a domestic opening predicted around $9 million to $14 million).

But back to Brand New Day, which has been the gift that keeps on giving for Sony-Marvel and theater owners since its July 31 release.

The records have piled up: Biggest opening day ($169 million), biggest domestic opening weekend ($360 million), biggest Monday ever ($47 million), the fastest movie to hit $500 million (seven days), the second-biggest movie ever domestically and, currently, the highest grossing movie of 2026.

Brand New Day is expected to rack up yet another $22 million to $27 million domestically this weekend, which should put it past Titanic on the list of the highest-grossing movies of all time.
