The Supergirl box office debut could not unseat a Pixar giant on Friday. Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 keeps its grip on the box office crown.

Per Variety, the animated sequel stayed the No. 1 movie in North America on Friday. That held true even as Warner Bros. and DC’s Supergirl and Paramount’s Jackass: Best and Last arrived in theaters. The weekend is still in progress. So these remain early estimates. Final numbers should land tomorrow.

Pixar’s latest held strong, earning an estimated $21 million Friday from 4,425 screens in weekend two. A domestic weekend between $70 million and $80 million now looks within reach. Such a result would carry its North American haul toward the $300 million mark.

Not many sequels pull off a result like this. Pixar gave us Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of Andy’s toy box more than three decades back. Then the fifth film roared out last weekend to $160 million at home. Nothing else in 2026 has opened bigger. Overseas, it set a series record at $312 million worldwide.

One big question loomed heading into this weekend. Could Supergirl seize the top spot from Pixar’s latest hit? It fell short on Friday. Still, the DC movie delivered a solid start.

‘Supergirl’ Box Office Lands In Second Place

Supergirl opened in second with an estimated $18 million from 3,602 theaters on Friday. The Milly Alcock-led superhero adventure should earn around $50 million through Sunday in Supergirl ticket sales.

Those Supergirl box office numbers mark a significant opening. They boost the latest chapter in the growing DC Universe. Alcock plays Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. The story sends her across the galaxy beside a young alien girl seeking justice. This Milly Alcock Supergirl debut anchors her arrival in the DC Universe.

The cast also features Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, Matthias Schoenaerts, Diarmaid Murtagh, Ferdinand Kingsley and David Corenswet. Craig Gillespie directed from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira.

The Supergirl vs Toy Story 5 race did not go the DC way on Friday. Even so, the Supergirl box office results give theaters another major summer release with real audience interest. Its long-term run depends on how well it holds in coming weeks. That matters especially as more big studio releases hit screens in July.

‘Jackass: Best and Last’ Takes Third

The other major newcomer landed in third on the weekend box office chart. Jackass: Best and Last earned an estimated $3.8 million on Friday from 2,855 theaters. It should finish near $8.5 million in early box office estimates.

The opening trails previous Jackass movies in domestic box office. However, the film cost a reported $10 million. The smaller price tag gives it an easier path to profit. Many of the summer’s larger studio releases face a tougher climb in weekend box office tracking.

Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and the rest of the longtime crew return for more dangerous stunts. Expect outrageous pranks and painful-looking chaos. Jeff Tremaine returns as director. These weekend box office numbers round out a busy Friday in theaters.

‘Obsession’ And ‘Disclosure Day’ Round Out The Top Five

Focus Features’ Obsession continued its incredible theatrical run in fourth. The horror thriller made an estimated $2.9 million on Friday. It should collect about $9.4 million for the weekend.

That haul would bring its domestic total to roughly $233 million. The film has now played seven weekends in theaters. Made for less than $1 million, it ranks among the year’s biggest surprise hits.

Steven Spielberg‘s Disclosure Day rounded out the top five. The sci-fi release earned an estimated $2.3 million on Friday. It should bring in around $7.8 million through Sunday. That lifts its domestic total to roughly $94 million after three weekends.

Final Weekend Box Office Numbers Coming Soon

The weekend still belongs to Toy Story 5. Yet Supergirl, Jackass: Best and Last, Obsession and Disclosure Day give moviegoers five different reasons to head to theaters. We will have the final weekend box office numbers tomorrow.
